A New Series

I have finally settled on a name for the new series - The Lands of Haroon, and the book - High Barrens.

This book will take place in the country of High Barrens, which as the name implies is a harsh environment. The main character is a woman named Flint who grew up in a town call Far Enough. (Yes, there is a story behind that name.)

I lived in the high desert for awhile. While it is a beautiful place, it was just too harsh for me.  I have tried to put both the beauty and the danger of that land into the book.

And then there's magic, sort of...

Is it magic when the people who wield it think it is the touch of a god? If so, then yes, there is magic. And struggle and family politics and a journey across difficult terrain.

I needed to write this book. Not sure why, but I couldn't get on with anything else while this was knocking at the back of my brain. I have a lot of stories to tell in this world. They won't always be about Flint. There are other characters, who you'll meet in passing in this book, that need their own books.

Now I can get back to the next book with Trash and Hunter. I was trying to work on it when Flint shoved her way to the front and everything else dried up. Part of me was worried about that story the whole time I was working on High Barrens. It felt like I had skidded to a stop in the flow of events. However, once Flint was out of my system, I was able to pick up the threads and take off again.

So High Barrens is with my first reader, and I'm working on the rough draft of Fluke (working title). The release schedule is February and April, respectively. And if I'm going to stick to that schedule, I'd better get back to writing.
